My name is Alejandra Epifani, I am an Industrial Designer and my specialty is objects... After a long time away from the world of design in 2012 I was able to take it up again, with recycling and ecology booming.
After a year of experimenting, Cartonpia was born from a utopia: a metamorphosis from the fragile to the eternal.
Recovering paper and cardboard, in a self-taught way, I developed a unique, ethical and sustainable jewellery.
A metamorphosis from the fragile to the eternal.
Thus, the basis of my workshop is the creation of unique jewellery with an artisanal footprint, the transformation of discarded materials into luxury jewellery.
I use papers that were discarded, both in homes and in schools, offices, supermarkets, bars, etc., whether they are cardboard, newspapers, magazines, boxes of frozen and canned food, kraft paper, corrugated cardboard, old books, calendars and more...
The pieces become intensely colorful, very resistant to use and of an astonishingly light weight.
The color comes from the dye of the paper, the text or images printed on it, and the combinations of the layers result in visual blends or vibrant colored lines.
Each piece is extremely resistant to moisture, as I carefully protect them with an insoluble and powerful varnish; Even so, I advise not to submerge them, in case of getting them too wet it is advisable to dry them.
Each piece is unique and handcrafted one by one, with a high finishing detail, always pursuing perfection in visual quality, tactile and resistance, using ecological and biodegradable materials whenever feasible.
